Just a week after hurricanes Eta and Iota, we arrived in Providencia to learn first-hand about their impact, the main needs and devise mechanisms to help the community rebuild their island and rebuild themselves.
During the first months of the emergency, in alliance with organizations that acted quickly in the territory, we focused on managing humanitarian aid to help meet the basic needs that were difficult to meet in the post-hurricane conditions.
By the end of 2021 and with the knowledge of the situation of the community and the effects that the pendemic, the hurricane and the reconstruction left in the Raizal community, TAAP Foundation in alliance with Colombia Cuida Colombia and TECHO Colombia began to formulate a project to address these needs. This is where the project of accompaniment and community strengthening was born and began its implementation in 2022.
During these 3 cycles of implementation, we have taken to the Raizal community more than 24 training sessions on peaceful coexistence, life project, entrepreneurship and social innovation, spaces for dialogue with young people, art libraries for peace, recoclotecas benefiting more than 300 children, young people and entrepreneurs of the island.
In the next training cycles we will work with teachers, youth groups, children and adolescents to offer the community tools that will allow them to successfully face the challenges that everything they have experienced in recent months leaves in their wake.
